Need to cook carrots, yams and turnips?

Hi, I wonder if you need to cook carrots, yams, potatoes and turnips before feeding? I am not talking about the greens. I am talking about the actual meaty bulk of the vegetable.

Yes I know some of these are occasional treats not everyday.

I always use a shredder or a food processor for my Bearded Dragons.

You can but they may lose some of their nutrition. I grate them to make them more digestable.

So it's actually BETTER uncooked? For all 4 of the above mentioned foods?

All veggies are more nutrient rich raw. Anything that's too hard for them, just grate it, like Marie says. I grate hard squash and sprinkle it on their salads. As for carrots, I buy those bags of shredded carrots that really look like little strings. They gobble them up with no problem. But you can shred carrots as well.

Ok so I've been doing that wrong too, for the Iggy, I'll cook it up and use the juice to mash it like I did when I made my own baby food.

I use raw, my mother's poor grater has seen better days after me trying to grate Kabotcha squash on it! That stuff is as hard as rock, but Diz loved it...next time I buy it Phil is grating it

Remember, carrots are suitable only occasionally. As for potatoes: AVOID white varieties, but sweet (yams) are OK to rotate through the diet. I have NO idea about turnips... I only use the greens.

Grating them is the easiest/best way to feed them... leave the skins on. I use a salad shooter professional with a larger grater to grate all my hard veggies. It makes the job SO much easier!

What I dont grate for Iggie I use a "Food Chopper" from Pampered Chef.
It costs $28.50 and has a 5 yr warranty.
Which I also happen to sell.
