Fish for Iguanas??

I was at the pet store yesterday buying guppies for my turts, when the employee asked me if I was feeding them to my Ig. I mentioned I had no clue that Ig's ate fish and he went into details on how I can give him 1-2 fish a month. Won't harm them.
Is this true?
If so, how. Do I just plop a guppy or rosy red in his water bowl and expect him to gobble it down?
Thought Ig's were strictly vegetarians?

I would suggest smacking your pet store employee up side of the head and telling him to go do some research before he gives advice about something that he is totally ignorant on!
Iguanas are strictly vegetarian and SHOULD NOT EAT ANIMAL PROTEIN!

Then I guess I was right in questioning him on this.
He mentioned he owns Savannah Monitors and feeds fish to his all the time and that ALL Iguana's can have fish.
Thank you for the input..I'll leave his diet as it is now.

The term "all iguanas" refers to a large number of different species, feeding on everything from marine algae to animal prey.
He's blowing smoke!

Monitors and iguanas are completely different animals. As Merlin said, it all depends on the species anyway. Animal protein is harmful to green iguanas. Unless I'm mistaken, I think it gives them kidney damage or something.

Yeah...and renal failure is a terrible way to go. You should print some information and go back to the store and politely tell him that he isn't doing anyone favors for passing out bad information.

Depending on the personality type of the shop guy, I would suggest to help with websites and such to spread correct information instead of going to the pet shop and telling the guy. I do know that not everyone bothers to research, but I have also learned that for some (a LOT) of people, if you try to tell them that they are wrong about something, especially something that relates to their work and they feel they know a lot about, it usually achieves the OPPOSITE effect. (i.e., he will start spreading MORE incorrect information that he thinks is correct, because he feels insecure now that you have shown him wrong, and he tries to prove himself right).
It's happened a few times and I have learnt the hard way.

I agree with RepLover. No matter what the personality type of the pet store employee, the "angry activist" approach will rarely work in getting the needed information across and usually does more harm than good. Iguana iguana is a hind-gut fermenter. Their digestive system is not equipped to deal with animal protein. There are several species of Iguanidae that eat meat, but our friends, the green iguana, are not among them. Consumption of animal protein by a green iguana leads to premature renal and liver failure.
