Vitiman supplementation

After reading james hatfield's book again, my mind was not only racing but sparks were flying out of my head as well lol.

I have mixed the rep-cal's calcium w/ D3 supplement with herptivite multivitamin supplement. My baby iguana has proper UVB and gets supplemented almost every day by sprinkling the mixture on her food along with nutribac DF. I am not worried about over-doing the nutribac but I read the supplementation chapter and I think i'm over-doing it.

How often would ya'll suggest dusting the greens?

Her salad consists of: collard greens, yellow and zuccini squash, green bell pepper, and mango

thanks,

Greetings Adam-

Since you are reading, read up on hypervitamintosis. When vitamin supplements, especially D3 are overdone it creates calcium deposits on the internal organs and will eventually effect their health.

Supplement vitamins (crushed up Centrum Silver is best) once a week. Sprinkle on the salad, if you can see it, it is too much. Supplement NutriBac DF probiotic once a week to keep the digestive system healthy. Stay away from D3, it's useless to them. Usable D3 can only be made in the skin from UVB exposure. Oral D3 is just one more thing for the body to breakdown, overworking the kidneys and liver.

You feed an excellent diet and you have great UVB, maintain proper heat gradient and you don't need anything else except the once a week vitamin supplement.

You could use Rep Cal Iguana food, soaked in water prior to feeding and do away with the vitamin supplement. This will do 2 things, provide extra hydration (the pellet soak up a good amount of water) and add necessary vitamins and minerals to the diet.

I hope this helps!

I wouldn't use calcium withD3. When I supplement I use human pure calcium carbonate and Centrum multivitamin (original). Human supplements must meet FDA requirements. You crush them and use them as you would reptile ones. Some say you don't need supplements if you are providing a good diet and some say soil is depleted and food isn't as nutritious as it should be. I would say don't supplement more than twice a week. But I only have had adults.

Dominick mentioned Centrum Silver and yes it provides calcium. With the calcium from the greens in your iguana's diet it should be enough. But you could use the soaked RepCal Iguana food pellets that Dominick recommended instead.

Fluffy really isnt that hydrated of a lizard. After all of my attempts to bath daily, mist constantly, and even put a humidifier in her cage she just doesnt stay hydrated. Her lateral bands have decreased but not disappeared entirely. If I provide centrum silver...can I still give the soaked pellets within the same week or should I use the pellets as a total substitute for the centrum when I use it?

You won't need the Centrum.

And I would feed the soaked pellets daily in addition to the greens.
I also take a plant mister bottle and spray the greens till they are dripping wet.

i mist the enclosure constantly, mist fluffy directly, and mist the greens till they are sopping wet.

So I could get the rep-cal pellets and feed them daily until she gets more hydrated, and then after that just use them weekly as a vitiman/mineral supplement?
