Ig greens in the UK

There was a post over on IZ that the owner of an iguana is unable to find collards as well as some of the other greens that we routinely recommend for feeding iguanas. I was wondering if any of our British members had any words of wisdom for them such as where to get them or acceptable substitutes.

Hi Merlin.

We also found difficulty in finding "collard greens" but were advised on a UK forum that the "mixed/fresh greens" bought in the supermarket are collard greens. I don't know this for certain but we buy them and feed regularly to our lizards and they certainly love them and all are very healthy.

They could also try a specialist green grocers and request them there, they may be able to help better, but most supermarkets provide a variety of suitable veg and fruit.

Hope this helps!

I have a somewhat similar problem. I can't find the right Bearded Dragon greens in small quantities. The smallest endive I found in the supermarket would last half a year if my Bearded Dragon ate it everyday.
I told my wife that the solution was getting more Bearded Dragons but seems she doesn't share my view

LOL Good one rbl

We do find that - the greens come in a huge packet and half usually goes bad before we can use it, but it's only cheap so not bothered about the money, just feel so wasteful of food. Perhaps we should get even more Bearded Dragons too

I get my greens from local super markets too, but can never find what I want, when I ask the assistants for stuff I get looked at weird as if I have just landed, I have stuck to picking wild dandilion greens and buying the veggies that I know, but they are so hooked on the dandilions they wont eat nothing else even though I give them a mixture.

I found the little market stalls to sell more interesting greens than the bigger stores.

LOL don't ask the supermarket shelf-stackers Donna, if you say something other than 'apples' they look at you as if you're daft!

We have loads of dandelions growing in our front yard but unfortunately we can't use them as we have used weed-killer pesticides before. Shame, but I did think of growing some cress,.. LOL wouldn't go far for an ig though, any luck Merlin?

Well he says that he can find turnip and mustard. I guess teh ig may have to go collard less.
If the mixed greens have collards in them you should be able to tell. Those leaves are very tough and chewy!
I've tried them in OUR salads!

The greens I'm talking about are pretty tough - big, thick green leaves. As I said i'm just going on what members of another forum have said, so according to them these greens are collards. If they are, tell him to look for "fresh greens".

Sounds like it could be collards to me! I'll pass the word.
He keeps other herps as well so I have already invited him to come by here anyway!

Sounds daft but next time we buy some i'll take a picture as I would like confirmation myself.

Well done Merlin, look forward to welcoming him aboard.
