How about arugula? It's a very good green. I can't get it here in the stores of TN, but it is at the top of the good foods list.

Here's a good collards pic:

Ahhh.. I could be wrong... but your collards look like our spring cabbage, now I am going to buy one and take pictures lol,

I have looked at them loads of times and wondered, if the Bearded Dragons would be able to eat them

LOL Some might say we're mad but we all know we're perfectly sane and it's the rest of the world that's mad

Thanks leeslyn and prism.. that really helps. The collards do appear to be the same greens that we get here - in some supermarkets they are labelled as "fresh greens", others "mixed greens" and also "spring greens". I don't know if collards are the same as our spring cabbage Donna, but prism's link does say that they are a member of the cabbage family so they will look similar?

Edit: the stupid camera battery has died or I would take pictures to add to this thread Having had another look at prism's link and our greens I noticed the stems are different - the stems on prism's link are very long, whereas the ones on our green seem thicker and much shorter, where the leaf starts almost right at the stem. I think we might never be sure about this, but the investigation is ongoing.. we will eventually find out whether our greens are actually collards, and if not then where do we get collards!

As long as "your" Collards have good, dark green, hearty leaves, they should be an adequate replacement for Collard Greens.

In the headless cabbage family, the darker and heartier the leaves, the higher the nutritional value (thank you Alton Brown!)

Amen Dominick! In all seriousness that actually helps, and the leaves on "our" collards are very dark, large and tough, and the lizards absolutely love them! - obviously greens are a more natural veg diet for something like a bearded dragon, and i've no complaints regarding the health of our lizards so their food must contain some beneficial nutrients!

Arugula

Dear Prism Wolf...

I have never found Arugula plants, but Lowes and Home Depot sell packages of seeds. This is how I got my start growing it. I let some of them 'go to seed' in the late spring, so I have my own seed supply

I have found Arugula at WalMart. It was almost 5 bucks for about 5 leaves...thats when I started shopping for seeds

Yup...that's how I found them...so I don't count those. That was ludicrous! You know though, I am wondering if I have wild arugula growing in with the dandelions. Well...not really with them, but one of the ones I come across often as I forage for dandies. The leaves look VERY similar to the pictures I was finding. I think it's stopped raining. I'll go out and see if I can find one and shoot a pic.
