Vitamins and nicotinamide question
Today my female layed about 12 eggs, and now she's really thin (no male/female mating was done) so ive been looking for a possible supplement for the ig and ive seen this certain multivitamins for kids which contains nicotinamide. my question is, is nicotinamide harmful/helpful to iguanas? i haven't seen her this thin before so im a bit worried. thanks in advance

The ingredient you mention is known here as niacin and is not a problem.
In leiu of actual herp vitamins many use Centrum brand vitamins and crush them. However what the ig needs most right now is calcium. It was a big drain on the body shelling those eggs. You can get pure calcium carbonate tablets at vitamins and healthfood type places. You do NOT want calcium wth phosphorous included. The emaciated appearance is normal. The first time I saw mine after laying it scared me to death! Make sure she is getting all the calcium rich greens she can eat. And be prepared she is going to eat like a pig! Just out of curiosity what are you feeding her? Ig diets are pretty specialized.

some food being given there is not available here in the philippines so I give her some okhras, sigarilyas, cauliflower, some times bananas, and other leafy stuff and fruits... actually thatsthe reason why I ask for possible supplements since some excellent veggies for igs are not readily available here. ![]() |

I would do the vitamins once a week and the calcium a light dusting every other day for about month. After that I would give a light dusting of both once a week. You want to just barely put enough on to see.
I understand the problem of not being able to aquire the same foods we feed. I doubt that collard and mustard greens would be available over there. If you can locate a nutritional breakdown on the local greens you are cheifly looking for foods high in calcium and low in phospherous. Other than that keep rotating different foods. I would limit the bananas and eliminate the cauliflower. Cabbages in general are not good as a staple food. If you could give a short list of some of the available greens by name maybe some of our other international members can help identify what they are and if they are good or bad.
