I wish I had a maid and chef, and someone to rub my big fat head when I scratch at the door so much it makes you crazy, and then you have no choice,,,, it is the 15 minute big fat head rub I have a few that love massages,, pitiful isnt it? I cant remember tha last time I had one, but they get one at least every other day.
What kinds of treats do you give them?
And that is so cool how they are all roaming your house!
I'd love for my iguana to come wake me up =]

Re: Iguana senses??

They do not all roam my house, lol. I would have some dead iguanas. Alexis and Baby Dragon are my free roamers, or should I say were my free roamers, lol. They are caged at night and when I am not home. These two are the exception to the rule, they are both females, and they very rarely cross each others path during the day. I have a 5 bedroom house and Alexis runs the back half, while Baby Dragon has staked claim to the front end of the house. I have a male who comes out sometimes with them named Grizzly, however he has serious brain damage and is not your typical male, nor does he behave like your typical male around females. When I take the others out I either put Dragon away or shut her off from the living room or wherever I am with them. So I guess you can say that yes, they do get a lot of free time out, but those are the only three that ever have minimal contact with each other. The other males have absolutely no contact with anyone else in the house. The other free roamer I have is Oscar my sulcata tortoise. They all leave him alone. It seems to me that iguanas are very smart creatures and know that if they mess with him they will get hurt. I also have 5 cats that free roam my house, but they also dont mess with the iguanas or the tortoise, lol.
The tortoise is the one who chases the cat around and terrorizes them, lol.

Oh, and yes, they all have their own enclosures, minus the tortoise and the cats.

As far as the treats I give my iguanas, it depends on the iguana. Baby Dragon loves bananas, so that is her treat, and only on ocassion. Ziggy loves papaya, and he gets that quite often. Grizzly will chase you around the house for a strawberry, lol. Alexis loves apples and bananas, Amadeus doesn't have a preference as long as you are feeding it to him by hand and rubbing his big fat head, lol. I am still working on Lucky who is nasty mean now, so he has no preference. Aragus will try to take your life for fresh green beans, lol. Well I can go on and on about the rest of them, but basically you get the idea. With the fruit like the bananas and apples, those are not to be given all the time, just as the ocassional treat.

Another thing to, is that you have to remember that these two females are full grown, so they are harder to lose than a baby, however, I have learned the hard way that you can lose them just as well.

Re: Iguana senses??

Critter's favorite treat is bananas also, which I give occasionally or when I really need him to co-operate, but one day I was wandering around aimlessly eating a banana and went in to visit him. I casually opened the door of his enclosure to talk to him, totally forgetting that I had the banana in my hand. He noticed though and almost launched out at me. When I realized what he was on about I hid the banana behind my back and had to divert his attention elsewhere in a hurry!

Re: Iguana Treats

Bananas for Don Iguan as well. But even normal food can be a treat if he's used to a regular schedule. Sometimes all it takes is me putting some greens in his "carrying cage" when he's not used to eating, and he's in there like a shot. Some days, I find it hard to coax him even with a banana.

I know! Critter too! They can be so temperamental. Just when you think you've got a nice routine going.....wrong!

Re: Iguana Treats

Freya loves strawberries, a cherry tomato or pineapple (pretty much any fruit) for her "treats". She also gets "dessert" lettuce (an outer leaf of romaine) for a treat sometime, it adds some extra fluids, as she doesn't drink enough for her poor body.
