Baby Food?
I have a friend that I met though work that has a VERY old iguana, he won it at a carnival when he was in middle school and has had it for 20 years. My question is regarding a food that he uses. He had problems getting his ig to eat anything that had vitamin and calcium powder on it so he stirred it into a few teaspoons of Gerber baby food and mixed it with his squash.
The iguana looks great and is HUGE, I was curious if there is anything bad about using the food, I read up on the ingredients and aside from a few preservatives, I don't see anything that would hurt the iguana. I have never fed anything like that to Ira, but it seems creative, especially this time of year when there are no real good fruits. While I have your attention about food, I do have a question about feeding method, I have been putting Ira's veggies into a food processor to make them like a pulp-like consistency since he is very picky about new foods and tends to eat the few pieces of fruit and the collards and leave the squash. The pulp I put on top seems to force him to eat everything (including the vitamins). Is it better to feed him the food in small cubes or as this pulp, I would assume it is the same, but I want to make sure. p.s. Ira just got back from his 6 month physical and is now the Poster Ig at the Vet, she uses him as an example of proper care, I attribute his good health to all of you who helped me along the way.

Re: Baby Food?
I would think the baby food is fine, and as far as your pulp mixture....I think thats a great idea. I'm sure there will be some Ig owners around to clarify (I know very little about Igs) If yours is the poster Ig at your vets,,,,you should post pics of him here. We LOVE pics !!!!

Re: Baby Food?
I don't have any recent pictures, but I have a good comparison picture.
This is the day I picked him up in the aspca volunteer's hand ![]() This is the most recent picture on my bed after a bath, he is about 2/3 as long as a standard tub ![]()

Re: Baby Food?
I use it on occasion, you can buy the organic stuff that doesn't have preservatives too. Just make sure you use the healthy veggies. Squash and Sweet potatoes are mainstays here.

Re: Baby Food?
I have given the baby food to Zok from time to time. As long as you are staying away form any of the meat combos it should be fine as the occassional salad topper.
My preference is to feed the veggies grated. Some igs are not really impressed with the pulp format. And it will end up all over them!

Re: Baby Food?
Oh the food ends up all over his head so bath time now has purpose, and I think I may start trying the baby food on occasion as a fruit sub
