Dehydrated Fruit?
I buy dehydrated fruit by the pound as a treat for myself, but it came with pears in it this time and I really don't like them, but Dizzy does. They aren't crunchy dehydrated, just that sort of 'mushy' type of dehydrated.
I was wondering if it should be okay as a 'sometimes' treat since fresh fruit is so expensive this time of year and otherwise the pears may just go to waste. I chopped them very finely because they have he skin still. It says they are dried 'naturally' and the only other ingredients they have are sulphur dioxide on the plums and potassium sorbate on everything else. Any input?

Re: Dehydrated Fruit?
I don't see why you couldn't use them as an occassional treat.
Personally I would rehydrate them first by soaking them in water. This will also give some of the preservatives a chance to leach off.

Re: Dehydrated Fruit?
That was my thought too.

Re: Dehydrated Fruit?
I agree with Merlin & Steph. I will occaisionally use dehydrated fruits, but I soak it for a few hours to overnight depending on what it is and everyone seems to like it that way, plus it provides moisture. Even the parrot likes to soak his dehydrated fruits.
