Throwing up
Hi, this is my first post. Recently my iguana started to throw up water. It seems after he eats, he cannot put his head down otherwise it seems like the water is coming out of his mouth. This forces him to keep his head up and keep swallowing. It seems as if hes trying to swallow the water back down. Where is this water coming from? It happens even before drinking any water and last for hours (regardless of the amount of food). Other than that he does not behave differently, he likes basking under the light all day and there is no color change. This happened before for a few days and went away but now its happening again. Sorry for the long post, oh and hes about 1 year and 3 months old. Thanks

Hello,
Thats very strange behavior. I would advise a trip to the vet. Its possible that there is some sort of flare up or swelling occuring in the throat. Only a vet would be able to really answer this one. The behavior though is very odd and should be checked out.

I agree with a vet trip, I've never heard of anything like that.

Thank you for replying. Yes I will visit a vet, and let you guys know what it is because it is strange I looked everywhere and it seems no one ever observed this behavior. I do remember my lizard swallowing its own shedded skin awhile back. I have no clue where it might of been because I always clean the cage and by the time I saw it in his mouth it was to late. Im thinking maybe he cant digest that and cant throw it up either. Regardless Ill make a visit to the vet.

Greetings Metec-
I just want to reiterate what everyone else advised. This is a serious condition, iguanas should never throw up for any reason. Please get your iguana to a vet immediately!
