Females and laying eggs
When a female Ig becomes gravid is it usually the same time as it was the prior year or can the dates fluctuate?
The reason I am asking is my Ig, "Iggie" is acting like she may be getting ready to lay eggs, but last year it was around March 23rd. The one thing that is a little different for her is that she has been doing some head bobbing at her reflection in the window mostly when I come in our room and has tried to bite my hand several times in the last 2 or 3 days. Im not sure if she's mad at me or whats going on She is going for a check up and X-rays early next week to see if she does have eggs or has re-absorb them. Any thoughts on this??

My Zok is just like clockwork. When she lays its right around easter. Of course something could have thrown your igs cycle off like irregular light cycle or changes in weather.

I'm quite intrigued by this - do female igs lay eggs every year regardless of whether or not they've been bred then? I have had bearded dragons lay eggs without being mated with, however they don't seem to do it as a regular thing and it's more of a one-off. The one bearded dragon that did lay more than once, without being mated with, was Rocky, when she first came to us, probably because she felt she was in the right conditions to breed, whereas before she was neglected and unwell.

When the conditions are right and the routine doesn't change much from year to year, then yes...they become gravid every year. They don't always lay. Sometimes they absorb the eggs.

The first time Iggie had 40 eggs in about 3-4 hrs. This was 3yrs ago.
The last 2 time she absorbed them; however, It was also like clockwork, March 21-23. This year I did go back to work after being home for the past 2 1/2 yrs. Im kinda thinkin that she did absorb them and is now in the post gravid stage. We live at the beach in Los Osos California, and so our weather has not alot of major or long term changes. She is going to the vet next week for her check-up so that should give me some answers.

Yes Rachel just like chickens they will create eggs whether or not there is a male. Zok has laid twice and absorbed them once and she has never seen an adult male ig.
Unless you count the pictures of Dom's Rex!

Wow very interesting, thanks. LOL Merlin, well Rex is a stud, you can hardly blame her for producing eggs in the hopes they're his
