Late Easter Eggs!!!!!!!!!!!
Zok my female iguana has been showing all the classic signs of being gravid for over a month now. All the typical, not eating, scratching and wanting out of the enclosure, and wandering into every nook and cranny she could find in the apartment, and being very outgoing in her behavior!! I have waited and waited and had about decided that she was going to absorb them (again) instead of laying.
FYI I have had many conversations with my vet regarding this and Zok just seems to like to be difficult. She is notorious for being slow to lay.
Well I was sitting here this evening practicing with my djembe (an African hand drum) and happened to look up at Zok on her basking shelf. Even though she has a perfectly good nesting box full of peatmoss to dig and lay in she has always chosen to lay on her shelf. And she is once again true to form. She was in the process of laying the eggs! I sat and watched her and she stopped. Curious as to whether the vibrations had anything to do with it I went back to playing and sure enough she had another contraction and here came another egg! Every time I went back to playing she laid another egg! 42 all in all! I wonder if I may have discovered something! I'll have to keep this in mind to try next year!
Now I have to get her back and fattened up again. They look like death warmed over when they have laid eggs!
But at least its over for this year!

That's so cool about the drum... what a compliment! (I'm with Steph -- just don't come around me with your drum!)
Are the eggs fertile/viable?

Nope no iguana breeding going on HERE! Zok has never even seen an adult male!
Besides if I was to even think about breeding igs Dominick would be chasing me across 3 states with a big stick!
