haha, today ive finally proved that my pet iguana is indeed a female iguana, so now the next question, she's only 1 1/2 yrs approx... she hasnt been mated with a male ig, but she layed an egg... this is impossible to hatch right?

If she was never bred with a male, the eggs are infertile. Has she laid more than that one egg?

Iguanas may lay eggs without being with a male but they will not be fertile. However there are a lot more eggs where that came from. Usually a couple of dozen! Be very careful handling her. If you get too forceful you may rupture the eggs and that is very bad! This time is a very hazardous time for a female ig and there are a lot of things that can go wrong. You really need to try to locate a good herp vet. Now.
You also need to prepare a nesting box for her so she has a decent place to lay her eggs. A large covered plastic tub or trashcan with a hole in the side and 3/4 filled with soil will work.

To add to what Merlin has already said...she will also need a serious boost in calcium. Her store has been depleted and needs to be replenished. Powdered calcium carbonate lightly dusted on her food daily will provide this as well as going up on the calcium rich foods such as collard greens and rehydrated figs.

Definitely get to a vet...and at the very least have an x-ray done.

thanks guys for the much needed info. Ive been looking for a vitamin supplement for the ig and saw enervon c a multivitamins for kids, it contains nicotinamide... is this harmful/helpful to the iguana?

one more thing she became CONSIDERABLY THIN... is this normal?


Ive also 1 dilemma, here in the philippines, herp vets are a rarity, and the closest thing to a herp vet is the one ive made an inquiry though he honestly admitted that he is no herp specialist though he said that he handled a snake before so im thinking of wether or not to take the chance of bringing the ig to the said vet? thanks again

Yes! All those eggs take up a lot of space!
I woould go with a vitamin for adults. Many here use the brand Centrum.Yes definately! There needs to be an XRAY done to make sure all the eggs came out. if they don't all come out it can cause the death of your ig.
