Advice?
ok, i have an empty ten gallon now, due to my um....lack of a mouse population (snakes love mice). and someone reccomended a pacman frog, i was wondering if anyone had a good caresheet I could read, or any tips. i have searched for caresheets but got bubkus. also, if anyone knows if a pacman can stay in a ten gallon its whole life. i was looking into pyxie frogs, but some of them get to like 9.5 inches...and that is DEFFINATELY way too big for a ten gallon. if anyone has any other suggestions, feel free to tell me.
thanks, Danielle |

Horned frogs (a.k.a. pacmans) are one of the easiest amphibs to keep. They're the leopard gecko of the frog world in that they're the perfect beginner species. They don't do much though. They need substrate to burrow in and a water dish with dechlorinated water. Just take care not to overfeed. If there's one problem with these frogs, its that they have a tendancy to get obese if you let them.

They are one of the most easiest reptiles I have ever had and heard of.
These frogs are very lazy! They can stay in one spot up to a whole entire week end as long as they are moist. They eat about anything, grow fat, do not require large tanks, very low maintenence, and they are all beautiful. The bad part of them is that they are such lazy frogs they get kind of boring some times. Some great items for the tank would be cypress mulch for holding humidity, a 5 gallon tank for a small pac man, a 10 for an adult, a large but shallow water dish...They are ntot swimmers and would eventually get tired and drown if they were to be put in deep water, and should only be handled with a sterile glove to make sure you aren't getting any bacteria from your hands on them. No hides are really required as these frogs burrow and hide. |

Yes Jem, I believe pacman frogs do bite, I went to a pet shop once with Rachel and the shop keeper dug it out for us to see, she let us touch him but only on the back as he would of bitten us

haha hey,
horned frogs are cute fatties with an appetite that keeps on going going going...... Be careful with their diet though, mine died from an infection due to eating a small bull frog (the feeder frogs were qurantined for days), should have kept to the rules of not feeding another herp to them. I was still very green to herp keeping then, but what I have made was a major one! by the way, dun bother setting up a nice planted setup, they will just flatten everything and dig up the roots!!! when feeding, always try to feed using a wooden chopsticks or tweezers and not your hands as they pack a powerful bite! my friend swore he heard the cracking sound of some of the bigger pinkies' skulls which he fed his frog with. here is some pics of my late frog, jabba (how I miss him )cheers ![]() ![]() ![]() |
