Hi JW-

Great looking Hognose snakes. I think they're one of the coolest snakes there is.

My experience with a hognose is limited to a park once. They guy conducting the educational presentation let me hold him (I was like 16-17 at the time) and it just kept rolling over and over in my hands! LOL But I love them, they are so beautiful... I love their shape!

They are all so cute! I would get one, but I keep hearing about the agressive ones, and since they are slightly venemous (aren't they?) I daren't get one! I might just get one anyway though, my KSB bites, I just leave him alone, if I buy a snake hook or two I'm sure I will be ok!

They may be slightly venomous but they are of such demeanor that I may posess them with my non-venomous license. They are rear fanged snakes and have such a small mouth that they would have to chew their way up the web between your fingers and even then only have a minute chance of any of the venom dribbling down the channelled rear fangs making it into you. Also the western hognose seems to have an aversion to biting people. It will strike but with a closed mouth ( it'll head butt you ) I have two pair that have been actively breeding for the past month and even if I reached in and picked one of them up during their copulation they wouldn't strike. They don't even strike at their food. If you wanted you could hand feed them because they just slither up and get ahold of their fuzzies and work them down.

hognose

I live in Missouri and hognose sankes are some-what common around here. I have seen a few in the wild and had a chance to catch one of them. I kept it for one night and released it back where it was found on our land. Even being a "wild" snake, it was suprisingly dosile; striking a few times but pulling back before it ever reached my hand. if I ever get a chance to own one, i will jump on that chance.
