I SO want one, more for my hubby than for me (wink) because it's the one snake that he truly loves. Their character, little snub nose, playing dead...everything about them is so cute! The only thing I am leery of is that they are commonly toad eaters, more so for Easterns than Western, or so I've heard. I have head my fill of non-rodent eating snakes after the Solomon neonates......I'm doing my research, though, and I think April might be time for a hoggie if I can find a western at a decent price.

From what I've heard from wstrn owners here and from the caresheets on wstrns that I've read over the net thus far, they say that they do well on rodents and will take pinkies straight away. Some of the sheets mentioned scenting with amphib's or anoles, but then they say they got to prekilled or f/t rodents just fine. That had been my hang up on hognose snakes as well, but since the wstrns seem easier to care for in the food dept, then I have decided that'll be my next purchase for sure!

They should feed readily on rodents, especially ones that are CB, WC can be difficult regarding their feeding habits. From my experience they will eat rodents and do well in captivity feed on a diet of only rodents. So go for it Kikai you know you want to

Mine get only frozen pinkies, but they don't play dead, that is more common in the eastern hognose which do better on a diet of toads.
