I want to thank everyone who suggested that I should post my photos in this forum. I already feel at home here!
This one is from May. I was riding my bike on a trail in the woods near my house going to a power line where I was going to look for dragonflies and some cool flowers. I stopped at this slow moving stream to see if I could find anything. I spotted this water snake on the side of the stream in some thick grass. I quickly grabbed my camera and walked slowly, trying to get a clear view. He dove right into the water, so I took off my shoes and waded into the stream.
The snake hid under a log and it took me several minutes to find him. I walked up and reached down to grab him. I have a skill for handling snakes, except venomous, and do not usually get bitten. However, one time I was handling a water snake a few years ago that was longer than I was, and he bit me right between my eyes! That was a close call.
Anyways, I found this attractive spot to place the snake for a photo. He was very cooperative, and I took this one photo before moving on. And I did not get bitten.
The picture was taken with a Canon 20D and a Canon 70-200 f4 lens.
Thanks for looking!
