Re: Rtb Pics
it is horrible! The good thing is, they wont euthanize unless they are 10 feet or above. The snake in there right now is 4 feet and I will watch to see if he gets adopted or not. If he starts getting terribly big I will go and get him.

Around here it was usually the young military kids, thinking they were cool, thinking they were funny watching people gasp and scream ,etc. What they did not stop to think about,, was the effect it would have on the rest of us who have been keeping big snakes for years.
|
That is one of my personal pet peeves! People who take their animals out and try to scare people with them really tick me off. And they REALLY don't like it when I catch them at it!
With all the work that many of us have done to educate people and reverse the stereotype of all reptile keepers being thugs and hoodlums it only takes one idiot to reverse it back to "oh its one of THOSE people"!
And Nichole is correct. That is exactly the reason there are so many anti herp keeping laws being passed.
But back to the subject, how big is your boa?

Re: Rtb Pics
i like the first pic. i love tongue shots! lol. i barely ever manage to get them from my snakes. i was lucky enough once to get a pic of my corn snake with his mouth open. that was pretty cool it was almost as if he were yawning or if there were a speech bubble there, yelling.

Re: Rtb Pics
I dont go far with mine... I walk around our yard or down to get our mail... and we only go to places its acceptable to have snakes... A friends house... vet... and I took my corn snake to petco once.... we dont have any snake laws here, and I dont want them to make em either... so when I do take them out... im extreamly carefull where I go... and I stear clear of people, unless they approach me in my yard... I would never want to put someone in a situation with any animal, that they would feel uncomfertable in....and my boa is almost 8 feet.... I can never get a good mesurement cause once shes down, the green flag is flapping, and there is a boa nascar race... or at least I think thats what goes on in her head lol

Boy I can relate to that one!
I too take my animals out in public from time to time, but I am always very aware of the people around me. If someone looks the least uncomfortable about it I smile at them and give them a wide berth. If they want to come over and talk or see the snake, iguana, or who ever I am toting around at the time that is fine. The key is to respect other peoples "space" and don't give them a reason to be fearful.
You might even change a few minds in the process!

Re: Rtb Pics
Exactly, couldnt have said it better... When I did take my little corn snake to petco, I had a 60ish little old lady approch me and she told me she wanted to get over her fear of snakes (born and raised in arizona...lots of hot snakes) so she petted the snake and goes... wow, I cant believe hes so nice... and soft... and she thanked me and went on her way... but I know what its like to be afraid of animals...lol I am deathly afraid of slugs... (nightmares when I was younger) and on top of It on occasion, I still get chased with em... which makes me have nightmares about slugs...

Re: Rtb Pics
Omg! You poor thing,,, Slugs are grosse, I admit. But this is definately not he place to live if you have a phobia of slugs,, I do understand phobias though,,,, I have a huge phobia of spiders. I would rather wrestle an anaconda than come across a tarantula, lol. I am working on it though, lol
