We get them here in the fall as well. Not that species though. When I was younger I made the mistake of keeping two together. Found a headless surprise.

Thanks for the comments. I have no clue where to begin to look for the species of it. I asked the mantis and it jus ttwiced its head....lol I guess I can try some mantid forums. I know Matt is the bug person here and will know where ever he maybe.

This is from Stagmomantis genus. Most likely Stagmomantis carolina, the Carolina mantid. There are a few other Stagmo' species in the US, but I don't think any others are in your area, at least as far as I know. This one's an adult female. Mantids only live about a year, so once their finally adults they don't have long to live. If you really want to enjoy mantid keeping find yourself a male or an already laid ootheca

ah so what are the bright green ones? THis is the first time ive saw a brown one. Its been doing well. Mantid keeping is cool, not like what I thought at first. Thanks for the info matt. Oh ya the date, the cameras batteries died and I never reset the date.
