Bella and Kai.. our IJCPs
I figured I'd throw in a link or four to our Irian Jaya Carpet Pythons. Their colors have changed a good bit. Right now they're looking a lot like Jungle Carpets. When you open the link, click "Full Size" to get the most from the pic.
This is my girl Bella when younger.
Baby Bella
And this is Kai back then.
Young Kai
A quick pic of them together to show their color contrast then.
Bella and Kai then
And a quick one to show how they look together now.... using me as a perch.

Nice looking pictures thanks for sharing. Interesting that the colors are different. Do they keep changing as they get older?

Color Changes
Yup, they're supposed to. Although there's a few ways they can go. Kai has tons of BLACK areas. Bella has a bit of black but is a lot yellower with tans and browns too. There's no real way to predict which way their colors will go.

How are they for handling?
I have heard that the young ones tend to be a bit nippy.

Handling
When I first got them shipped to me, I opened them up and inspected them for injuries. Kai (Jenn's male) has been tamer than any puppy since day one. He has never once nipped.. or even tried. Bella on the other hand bled me 3 times in 10 seconds when I picked her up. Since she had just come halfway across the country I forgave her.
Since then, occasionally when I go to pick her up out of the tank.. she starts to strike.. but never completes it. And there is never any aggression from her once you get her out of her tank. The one exception to this rule is around feeding time. She is a VERY aggressive feeder. Kai sometimes skips meals whlie shedding, Bella hasn't missed one yet. She will nip the day of feeding and usually the day after. I like to give them 2 days or so after feeding before handling to avoid any risks of regurgitation, but sometimes I have to go in there the day after feeding to change some substrate or water. I just give her space when I have to.
Overall, I'd have to rate their handling as excellent. I've never seen a snake as docile as Kai. Bella is fine as long as you dont mess with her while she's enjoying her lunch. Kai seems to adore human contact and is content to wrap on you and stay there all day. His favorite perch is my wife's hair when she has it in a bun. He'll wrap it tight and then park his head on the center of hers and ride around till you dislodge him. Bella prefers arms, but both will sometimes climb to the top of my head and rub around a while. I shave my head and think my stubble gives them a good scratching.
They hatched May 30th and we got them about 2 weeks later. They're 7 months and 2 days old now and I haven't been bit since the first week.
