pics of the newest family member
Hope I get it right this time!! Been trying to get pics in with a thread...still learning how to maneuver (sp?) thru the site and use the tools, I'll get it. Anyhow here are a couple of pics I took yesterday. I currently have indoor/outdoor carpeting, anyone know of a problem with this? I thought it might hold the heat in better especially since my house runs really cool in the winter. Or would aspen work just as well? I have a piece of plexiglass covering the top 2/3 of the tank with a lamp over the last 1/3, bringing up the humidity, still don't have it where it needs to be. I also need to redo the moisture hide (for lack of better descript), I want to get a Glad container, put a whole in it, add some sphagnum and water (I know there is too much in there now but trying to build humidity for now). Any suggestions on anything, I'm all ears (eyes, lol)!!

As far as the water bowl with moss in it, I would ditch the moss, its not needed, just the bowl of water. She will drink and soak from the same bowl. You could also add a fake plant or two to give her extra security. I tend to stay away from aspen, I think my bp's are allergic to it, when I used it, they would wheeze and cough, once I removed it, they were fine. I either use newspaper or reptibark. I think the repticarpet is ok, I have never used it before. You might get a digital temp gauge to, the stick on ones are pretty useless.

It should be ok to use. Are you using a Under Tank Heater (under tank heater)? If so, is the heat getting through enough under the hide spot? Hopefully others will have better info.

Ya that is fine. Reptile carpet, dont fraid as much as indoor outdoor. You can get it in the size of your tank, Also the stick meters only get that surface temp. You can get a good digital one for about 9 bucks.
You cna include a moist hide, a tupperware witha hole and the damp moss in it.

it should be ok as long as the edges are not frayed at all, could get caught on scales and cause all sorts of uncomfertableness. as long as it's not frayed and the Under Tank Heater can get threw it you should be fine I think

I have used aspen for years without a problem and much prefer it to the reptile carpet. With some brands of aspen there is a lot of dust in the shavings and this could be the cause of Marsha's problem. I use the "Kaytee" brand and have never had a dust problem. I have also used cypress mulch from the garden center.
The problem with the stick ons is that they only measure the temperature of the glass that they are attached to, not the actual temperature inside the tank.
It is comparable to putting your hand against the window of your house when its wintertime and cold outside. The temperature of the glass is NOT the temperature of the air in your house.

Thank you for explaining aspen vs carpet and the thermometer thing to me....where/how are the digitals placed in the tank and do I need 2 of them or do I just move it and check the temp on either side? I do have and UT heat pad, along with a bask light for day and then a black heat light for night. The UT pad is on the same side the lights are used, is this correct or should I have the heat fixtures arranged differently? OH there is so much to learn!!, but it is so exciting at the same time!.
