Help with Dumeril's
I own a 4 month old Dumeril's Boa and I am curious if he might not be able to smell because he never seems to smell with his tongue even when I drop a mouse into his cage. He eventually will eat the mouse but not until I leave the room dark for a couple of hours. If he does use his tongue it will barely come out of his mouth. Can anyone help me?

Hi,and welcome ot the HCN. He dosnt have to stick his tongue all the way out for it to be of use
when my boa is in hunting mode she barley sticks her tongue out. the dont only find thier prey based on smell...they go by movement and heat as well ![]() |

Thank you for the info, I wasn't sure because I just recently got him and he is my first snake so I'm not completely familiar with his behaviors yet. That is definitely good to know though because I tend to worry a lot about him if he does anything that seems unusual. Thanks again.

Harmeen,
Welcome to Herp Center! Don't worry about your Dumeril Boa, at least he's eating! Make yourself at home, and post some pics! Steve
