I have a red tail boa. it is a female that is 9 year old. her skales on her spine can be lifted off easily revealing flesh. i am very concerned with this problem and have never come across this kind of problem. can anybody help me?

Hi, and welcome ot the HCN. Could you give us a little bit more info? Such as substrate used, tempreatures, humidity,how often she defecates, how often you feed and what prey size? Also how often does she shed? And how are her sheds? Does it come off easily or do you have to help her out and do you ever pull her old shed off for her?

Hi and welcome...yes let us know how you keep her...also does she come in close contact with her heat? sounds like a possible burn....maybe a pic of the area in concern? A vet visit may be in order....good luck Lyn

Thanks for your reply. all questions above are 100%. i do not think that it is a burn as she already has a scar from a burn. i have owned snakes for the past 25 years and breeding snakes for the last 6 years. this problem has just occurred in the last week. up until then everything was fine and she is still fine. i just noticed this irregularity on her skin and am concerned.

Ive never heard of this problem before..maybe you should give your vet a call and see what he/she thinks .

I have never heard of this either. I beilive a vet visit is definately in order.
Please let us know what you find out.
