Help Again!!
I took Slim to the vet and well it's not pretty, I had to travel all the way to Abiline to take him, thier not sure what is wrong with him, they think it is blackening skin syndrome, and told me to put iodine mixed with water on him just like you told me to do, and I have read about it and in the book it says to put Iodine mixed with water on it, thats not working, the black stuff just keeps coming back, they said it's not stomatitis, (mouth rot) I don't know what to do, He's eating o.k, but the black stuff keeps coming back it's like right in front of his mouthon the tip of his nose and on the tip of his bottom jaw, and now since i've been doctoring him he's been really stressed, and hangs his mouth open alot. What should I do? I have spent a lot of money on him, I can spend a lot more, but the vets here don't have any advice for me. Please help!!!!

It sounds like a bad coase of mouthrot, have the vets given you any ointments or antibiotics? They need to, moutrot can spread rather rapidly and if left untreated it can be deadly.

He gave him an injection of Baytril, but he dousn't think it' mouth rot he says it's a type of skin disease. The problem is how to get rid of it, he said I should have seen improvement by now, but it seems to me like it isn't getting any better, the black stuff just keeps coming back. Now he won't even get under his heat lamp any more to bask. He just stays in this one corner where it's really shaded and everytime I try to move the lamp over him so he can get warm he moves away from it. The vet said that he needs to stay warm and quiet so he can heal. I can't use a heat rock on him that would cause a lot more trouble, I have a heat pad under the tarrarium to keep the humidity up, but it's not really for warmth I just don't know?

He's not listed on there, but a lot of people recommended him that have reptiles, I called around and talked to local vets, he's the only one with in 100 miles of where I live. Other than that i'd have to drive all the way to Austin or Dallas Texas

first of all clean it off with some peroxide and put neosporin on it, it should be fine till youre able to get him to a vet. You may want to make plans for the trip to austin or dallas, I know its far but it will be worth the trip to get your little one better..can you take pics of his lip?

Also make sure you have him in a tank with no furniture that he can rub against again, put paper towels down so no substrate gets into the open area. If you need to cover all the sides to prevent him from rubbing against the glass,,,make sure he is nice and warm and not stressed.

o.k done I don't think I can get to Dallas though I wish I could show you guys a picture of it, it's very hard to describe, it started to bleed I got it to stop though, I put peroxide and neosporin on it, I think I'm going to sue that pet store!! I can't believe this poor thing, I am going to go to this veterinarian in Odessa as soon as I can, I think he'll be o.k until then. He just ate cricket after I doctored him so I don't think it is causing him to much pain. i'll see if I can find a picture on the internet that looks like what he has. Thanks for the help, I'll kepp you posted
