Annual Exams

This morning I took Gil (my ig), Shasta & Spike (my brother's Bearded Dragons), and Ike (a friend's ig) to the vet for their annual exams.

Everyone except Shast got a fecal exam done (he doesn't poop on demand yet. lol), and everyone by Spike got blood work done (for some reason, he didn't bleed enough).

The doctor said everyone looked great. He confirmed that Shasta does indeed have Metabolic Bone Disease (he's a rescue), and gave me some antibiotic ointment for Gil's lip. He's got an area of bottom lip that sticks out farther than the top, and it dries out. Lately it's began producing a plaque-like substance, so the doc wants to be sure it doesn't get infected and treat it if there's already one started.

Only one thing bothered me: when I got home, I noticed that several of Gil's femoral wax-plugs were pulled out. I'm not sure if this happened due to him struggling when they drew blood or what. I'll definitely be asking the doctor about it when I call for lab results on Monday. His legs look weird now... some huge empty holes where the pores are and some plugs poking out. Has anyone with an older male ever had problems after an ig has lost these plugs?

The vet is 1.25 hours away, so I packed all the little boys into pet carriers with hot water bottles to keep them warm, and Gil free roamed the car (like usual). The ride was nice, except for me sweating profusely. lol On the way home, I stopped at the pet store and picked up bugs for the Bearded Dragons; I also got Spike a nice pinky for being such a good boy.

I think I got a glimpse of what Lyn feels like everyday with so many kids and animals to take care of!

Dizzy isn't that old, but he's lost a couple while battling with me over who is going to be the 'alpha ig'

They just look like empty holes, I haven't looked for a couple of days, but they didnt get swollen or anything and it didnt bother him when touched them.

I'm glad to hear that this probably won't hurt him... but I'll keep an eye on it just to be safe.

It looks like Gil's are starting to grow out already too.

I'm taking him to the vet Friday morning... his WBC is elevated so we're putting him on antibiotics. The vet feels that injections will be better in the long run, so I'm gonna learn to give an adult male a shot. His fecal was clear.

Spike is also heading back to the vet. We weren't able to get enough blood to draw labs on him, so we're gonna give it another go. His fecal was positive for parasites.

Shasta's bloodwork came back great... which is surprising since he's the one with obvious Metabolic Bone Disease (he's a rescue). He just needs a bit more hydration. He didn't provide a fecal sample, so unless he does tomorrow morning, we'll assume that he's also positive for parasites.

Ike (my friend's ig) was the poster child of lizard health! He's probably just under or right at one year old. This was his first vet visit. Bloodwork was great and his fecal was also clear.

Napoleon lost femoral plugs on occasion, usually the biggest ones. They always came back and it didn't seem to bother him at all.

Sorry to hear that Gil has elevated WBC and has to go on antibiotics. I hope you caught whatever the problem is on time.
