In your first picture, the gecko on top looks a little thin, but I'm sure he'she'll fill out with a little time and food. I'd say the chirping is either a territorial display, or a mating call (or both). The color change has to do with their temperature. If they're too cold, they turn dark. If too warm, they turn pale. Geckos also tend to become pale at night. If they're nearly black at times though, that's not good. They're cold or stressed.
