Eye Trouble with Anoles
Hello All.
I live in Philadelphia With My wife My Iguana and 8 Anoles all of the lizards and my wife have the run of the house. They just hang out on the many plants and diftwood. I dont keep them in any sort of encloser. Although sometimes I think my wife should be in one! Anyway A problem with one of the Anoles, it is a bahama anole. It seems as though he can not open his eyes and when he tries it looks as though his eyes are a little clouded over. I dont think he can see. He is eating but only when I hand feed him. He is drinking but only when I spray water directly into is mouth. At first I thought maybe it was because of the dry environment created by the forced air heat in the house. But I have created warm humid areas for the lizards to retreat to and they often do. No problem with the other anoles. Does this sound familuar to anyone? Does anyone know of reptile Vets or Herpitologists in the Philly area that will take a look. I also need a Vet for the I guana. Thanks |

thanks for thinking im funny, at least someone does. Not sure how old the anole is got him from pet store, not sure if he was captive or bred. Is there anyway to tell how old they are? I had a green anole for about 8 years. did not look to much different than the others until he was at the very end. god rest his soul. I will check out the web sites for vets. I do not have kids YET (one of the reasons I want to pen my wife) so my lizards are like my kids.

thanks for help rich. found a vet right around the corner! got the troubled anole in its own encloser. buying a house soon and I am going to dedicate a room to my little friends. Dont like seeing them in a glass tank. I was thinking that I could create the right temp and humidity in that room. Any thoughts on that? In the mean time I will go out and get a tank and humidity gage for the little guys. Thanks again for all the help. And Stumpy (the anole in question) thanks you too.

have room about 80 but forced air heat makes it dry. spray them often. I also have areas I keep humid and warm for them to retreat to. Buying a house so I am going to make a room dedicated to the lizards that has the proper humid etc.
But as rich told me. Their current siruation not good enough for the anoles. Presently thay are by a window get plenty of natural light all day. I also have a uv light for them to get under. |

UV light is not going to penetrate the window glass so all they are getting is a bit of heat.

When I was younger I had a reticulate python that grew hudge fast about 12-15long was to heavy to have on my shoulders anymore. He had free run of a large warehouse apt I had. It got out of control. he would rearange the furniture and machinery I had in my studio. And he was eating rabbits or lots of rats. Started feeling guilty sending all of those little furry animals to their death. And he was starting to look at me kinda funny. Like in the cartoons when one hungry caractor looks at another and sees a hot dog. So I gave him to an older more seasoned reptile handler. That guy moved to LA and I lost touch with him. |
