UVB does not penetrate glass or plastic. In fact the glass in our homes is designed to filter it out to protect us and our furnishings.
There are certain types of glass used in greenhouses that will admit it.
For a room sized enclosure your best bet is going to be the mercury vapor. Check out the link on the opening page under ReptileUV. These lamps are state of the art and have been getting very good reviews. Several of our members use them.

Regarding the roomates eating one another. Im going to stay away from the more agresive preditors for now
You may have a problem even with the iguana. I was talking to someone who had an ig in an outdoor cage and the wild anoles would come into the cage. The ig would kill and eat them. Probably more a territorial issue than predation.
Its also going to trash your plants when it gets older!

That makes sense, Guess I may have to keep them separated later. I was thinking the anoles were much to fast for the ig and they seem to stay away from him anyway. Except for one anole him and the ig seem to be buds. They lay on the branches right next to one another and sometimes the anole lays directly one the ig. Maybe he or she dont actually know sex yet has a good temperament. But I guess that will change if he is male. I guess when I get moved in to the new place and the ig gets bigger. I will find out at the expense of an anole or two. As for the plants not sure how to handle that I would hate to have to use fake ones. Getting new windows for house so maybe they can be ordered with that special glass. I hvave heard of those windows being used in houses for plant areas. I used to work for 84 lumber as a contractor sales men so I should have remembered that the glass blocks uv light. oops

The one problem you may have with regard to using the UV glass is that it will cause your furniture and carpeting (if any is in the room) to discolor and deteriorate.
It does get complicated!

Have the room picked out. No furniture just the lizards and their forest.
I will try to keep you posted when I start setting it up.

I don't know much about anoles but I think it is awesome that you just let your lizards run around the house. I would but if ya look at my herps you can see why I don't.

Yeah it is certainly not always practical and as I am finding out it is not always good for them. The anoles problems are most likely from lack of humidity. So now he is in a tank so that I can monitor the moisture in the. Seems as though he is getting better afetr just 24 hours. Thanks to this web site and the people here I know a lot more about better careing for the little guys.
Buying a house and I am setting up a room just for the reptiles. gonna make a walk in Vivariium if you will. I am going to put UV glass in the windows and set a humidifier. Should be pretty cool, always wanted to do this. I will post pics and discriptions of the construction when it is under way. I am sure the input I will get here will certainlt influence the finished project.

I am having the problem with my anole.

Bill64-How did you solve the problem with your anole. She won't open her eyes and she is not eating. I have been able to get her to drink. This is one of my first experiences with a scaly friend. I teach Kindergarten and we have mostly furry ones. What did you do to help your anole? I can't stand seeing her look so unhappy.

Temprature control and higher humidity, it appears. Where are you keeping it?
