Vet visits are a must for any animal, at least take a stool sample in to check for parasites. Poor shedding is usually a result of low humidity. Check to make sure your temps and humidity are within tolerances.

The trick is to maintain the humidity on a consistant basis. Are you using temp/humidity guages in the enclosure ?

Bad sheds aren't life threatening, but they are uncomfortable for the animal and eye caps, if not shed properly, can become a problem. I have a ball python in my care that is blind because someone told teh owner that the eyecaps could be removed with tweezers. Get yourself some guages, they are inexpensive insurance.

Are you feeding frozen or live, there is a much greater chance of parasitic infection from live. If you aren't already on frozen you should try to switch them before they get too big. (Besides, frozen is less expensive)

Jay

Im way ahead of you buddy. Ive been battleing mites for a yr and finally I defeated them. I will never use live. I have used frozen for months and continue to do it. Also what should the humidity be for a burmese python cage w/ 2 burms in the cage? pls dont say its bad to have 2 rooming together. I know it is usually bad. i am aware. Thanks

Depending on the snakes I have more than one in an enclosure.
Daytime temps 85-90
Nighttime temps 75-80
Humidity 50-60%

The shedding in peices is not life threatening. However this is indicative of the humidity being too low and that can be. Without the proper humidity the snake is subject to respiratory problems which is a common problem with burmese. Temp and humidity guages are both a must have.

I've recently put plastic "moist boxes" in each of my enclosures. These are just tupaware or sweater boxes with one entrance hole big enough for my snakes to get in after a big meal. I put damp sphagnum moss in it and spray it often and it is kept on the warm side of the cage. I keep the rest of the enclosure at the recommended humidity levels, but I've noticed that at shedding time both Talyn, my Brazilian Rainbow Boa and Monty, my BP went into the moist boxes and didn't come out for 5 days or so. Talyn is still in there: I think she'll probably shed tonight or tomorrow. Monty had a perfect shed and since then he hasn't used the moss box at all. I think it's just good to have something like that available if they want it.
With burms you'll probably need something pretty big, but I can really recommend having something like that.
