Can you ID this lump on a Southern Ringneck?

We were packing up our tools after a day of work last friday. I look down and there is a southern ringneck laying belly up on the sidewalk where we've been walking. I know these snakes sometimes presernt their bright bellies as a defensive posture and thought that could be what he was doing. I picked him up and there was not much reaction at all. I brought him home and his appearance started improving a little late the next day. Now it's been 4 days and he is exploring all over the place (really a lot more active than our other southern ringneck.. this guy is ALWAYS out of hiding), so I dont think he was seriously injured. The only thing that worries me is this lump he has on his back. It was present when I first saw him, but it doesn't look like a fresh injury. Can anyone help me ID his problem? For perspective, the snake is about 7 inches long and as big around as a wire to a keyboard. I'll link some pictures. Please click "Full Size" to get a good view.

It looks like an old injury...if it isn't affecting his motion or quality of life and isn't draining or getting bigger I wouldn't worry about it.
