Possible broken foot/ankle...
Hey guys...this is Lilee...our baby Chinese Water Dragon. I was looking through some pics of her and noticed that in most of them her foot is angled funny. So, I went over to her cage and started to check her out, and sure enough, it appears to be broken. She doesn't seem as though she's in pain or anything and is eating good and running around just fine...but still. Anyone know what, if anything, can be done about this? Here's a pic of Lilee on the day we got her...pay attention the the front left foot, on ur right...lol... ![]() Another shot of her foot...different angle... ![]() And another... ![]() And the last one... ![]() So, anyone know what I can do? |

How long has it been that way? If its been for any amount of time then it has probably already began to heal that way.
Does she react as if it is in pain if you handle it? If you are worried then you should probably trust your gut and have a vet check it out.

Hello,
You should see a vet regardless of your gut feeling. If the foot is broken, and is healing incorrectly, it could cause issues. You also need to figure out how the foot got broke in the first place. Another thing that should be checked out is Metabolic Bone Disease. What type of UV light are you using? (Brand and Model) |

I agree. Vet time!
If the injury as a recent break there is the possiblity of internal damage every time it is moved.

Ok, I just got off the phone with the vet. Due to the snowstorm we're having right now, it's impossible for me to make it there...since it's an hour drive and I don't think I can even make it out of my driveway right now! However, she mentioned a calcium problem and suggested I bring her in when the weather clears up a little bit!

Hello,
The calcium issue would be the Metabolic Bone Disease that I mentioned in my initial response. Even if it were a calcium issue, like Metabolic Bone Disease, the foot still needs correcting. The, with the proper lighting and diet, you will be able to prevent further issues like this as well as help to reverse any damage done by these calcium issues. (If the WD actually has Metabolic Bone Disease.) Metabolic Bone Disease is normally caused by poor lighting (Lack of useable UV), poor diet, and insufficient calcium intake/ absorption. (The absorption issue is directly related to poor useable UVB. Without adequate UV lighting, in the proper ranges, the animal can not absorb the calcium it is eating as its D3 levels are not sufficient.) |
