I have a young approx 6 month old VCham ( we have had him only for 6 1/2 weeks)and the humidity level in his mesh habitat has hovered around 60-65% for this time with manual mistings at least twice a day. Now the weather here has become less humid and it is affecting the interior humidty level of our house. The level sometimes drops to 40% inside his habitat and I have tried more frequent mistings but can't keep the level up.

I read an old forum thread concerning misting/humidifier applications. I am quite handy so plumbing would not be an issue.

My question concerns what to purchase? I have been to a few pharmacy stores and noticed three varieties. A humidifier, a cool air mist, and a warm air mist.

What would be the best variety for a VCham, with the piping across the top of the habitat?

What type of set up do you have him in? Glass tank or reptarium type material?

There are three common types, the ones you have found.

Warm air- Hardly ever applicapble in herp applications. It heats the water causing it to evaporate and then expels the warm moist air from the unit. It's basically a steam producer.

Cool mist- Sprays an actual mist into the air, can be applicable but not as effecient as the next.

Ultrasonic- Usually labeled ultrasonic, cool mist ultrasonic, or something along those lines. These operate by vibrating the water molecules into tiny droplets, so tiny that they produce a 'mist/fog' that can be plumbed into the enclosure. There are several companies producing these and it isn't too hard to build your own. The best brand IMO is the sunbeam brand, they are usually at most drug stores. These are easily plumbed and you can set it up like a spray bar with small holes to disperse the humidity. The max head isn't too high but you'd be surprised, just don't try and get it to go 6' high.

CODY: The three items I saw are all Sunbeam.

I didn't notice if the cool mist varieties were ultrasonic. I will check on my way home.

VENUS: The habitat is a full nylon mesh style. I couldn't bare to torture him with glass like the original people who looked after him did.
