rescue

I work at a local pet store and a young kid brought in a water dragon that was very mal nourished and was being kept in a 10 gallon enclosure with barely enough room to turn around. No heat source and no uvb light and told me he hasnt been feed for 2 weeks because he couldnt afford it and didnt want him anymore. So I took him home immediately on my lunch to set up a tank and start taking care of him. Now my question is I have fed him gave him all the lighting vitamins and calcium. His color is coming back but because his previous enclosure was so little he has bad snout damage from rubbing on the glass. I dont know of any vets locally that look at herps so I was wondering I have opened his mouth and it looks just like my other dragon what are some precautions I can take until I can get him to a vet and is there anything I can do to make it better? Any help would be appreciated. I have only had im for about a week and a half and I already love the little guy (not so little 19'') lol but he is doing so much better.

You can start by putting neosporin or an antibiotic ointment on the damaged area. If infection sets in you will need to seek vet care for antibiotics.

Here's a link also that talks about snout rub/damage.

Also make sure to keep his enclosure nice and humid (80%),it will help keep him hydrated. Youre gonna want to make sure infection dosnt set in because more then likely if he gets snout damage he will get mouthrot, which is a pain to treat. Keep his temps on the higher side (88 deg.f) and on the cool side about 84 deg.F.
