Uh-oh Cricket Babies

Apparently I left a pair of crickets in the pac man frog tank a bit too long. Suddenly i have a whole mess of pin-head crickets.

I scooped out as many as I could and heavily watered the tank, since i know crickets and dampness don't mix. I also stuck a fresh piece of sweet potato in there to give any remaining crickets something to much on.

Anything else I should do? Do I need to remove all the substrate and replace with fresh?

The good news is in about 4 weeks, I'll have some free food. I guess breeding isn't that hard after all...

Re: Uh-oh Cricket Babies

You could have had a female that was already gravid when you tossed her in. All she would have had to do was deposit the eggs in the soil before being eaten. lol

Re: Uh-oh Cricket Babies

that's possible too. I just don't want the babies to be taking bites out of Mr. Meatball.

I've had that mess before. You can use sticky paper to trap them. Not sure how it would work with frogs though. You want to keep them away from it.

Re: Uh-oh Cricket Babies

could pin heads do damage to the frog? I would be willing to bet that by the time they could do damage to him, they would be big enough to catch his attention and become a snack....

Re: Uh-oh Cricket Babies

One thing you could do. This will help what ever plants are in there too. Take the frog out of the tank and put him somewhere. temp houes or something for two days.

Next go to your local dry ice place. Get a pound of it. Now back at home get 3 small dixie cups or more depending on the size of the cup and add some water to them. Crush the ice up. Remeber to use gloves. Place the cups with the ice bubbling away in the tank. This will start to make it all foggy. Cover anny openings and the top. Cover it with something to keep the CO2 in. Leave a small space open though for some air exchange. Let the tank fill and it will kill all of them. Easy and painless. The plants will enjoy it too. Theyll spurt up with more growth.

If i didnt explain this well enough. Here is what i was going of off. I just forgot where i read it at.

Re: Uh-oh Cricket Babies

interesting.

Well, for right now they are mostly committing suicide in the water dish, like stupid crickets do.

If they REALLY turn into pests, then I'll do the dry ice thing.
