So I was online this am looking at the Petsmart website (blec) lol
I was in the reptile section under enclosures and here is an ig cage that looks like my FERRETS cage lol! It has 3 stories ,ramps ect and I say to myself...this cant be right. Re: Cant Be Good Can It?
I'm not an Iguana owner. But I would think it unwise to put one in that. Would have to humidify the entire room to start off. There are many pics I've come across that advertise products that shouldn't be used with the reptiles depicted in the ad.

Re: Cant Be Good Can It?
Those would be fine in a situation where there was naturally warm temperatures and high humidity (say in Florida, or in another area that tends to have more tropical temps), and you let the iguana out to exercise. It would probably make a great outdoor basking cage, and is probably collapsible, so could be rigged for travel.
It wouldn't work in an area that's drier or if you plan to keep the iguana in the cage most of the time. In that case you need to have a much more enclosed structure to keep heat and humidity levels high. And it would need to be MUCH bigger that any of the ones I've seen advertised as iguana cages. Oh, and Lucysfriend, you can just copy the URL and paste it into the comment box. That will automatically format it as a link.

Re: Cant Be Good Can It?
I think I know exactly the cage you are talking about and its a JOKE! Is this it?
Reptile | Reptile Habitats & Accessories | Super Pet Iguana Kingdom Home | Petsmart.com Its sold as an adult iguana cage and it is nowhere nearly large enough for an adult iguana. Its nothing more than a large birdcage and will be impossible to control heat and humidity.

Re: Cant Be Good Can It?
I use an open cage (albeit not the one in the link from Merlin) for my ig and don't have any problems. Of course, right now, during winter I keep it covered with a comforter to hold in the heat but the temps are spot on. Granted, Einstein is only 36" and 2 years old right now so I know that it's not going to last forever but for right now it works. Here's a pic of my cage...the measurements are 42"x31"x55"

Re: Cant Be Good Can It?
I know exactly what you're talking about because it's the cage the water dragon I got was previously kept in. Unfortunately the previous owner didn't do too good of a job at reading up. The lizard had some issues when I got him, although I've finally got a new and proper enclosure set up and he's enjoying it quite a bit. When I first saw it, it reminded me of a ferret cage, but I have seen it sold as iguana cages.

Re: Cant Be Good Can It?
You will find that frequently with the "Super Pet" brand. They sell exactly the same item as a ferret harness, a rabbit harnes, a cat harness and a reptile harness. Same thing with nail clippers.
In their merchandising mindset apparently one size fits all!

Re: Cant Be Good Can It?
I have a few of those in the garage at the moment. I use them for those fabulous dump and runs. They are extremely hard to keep heat and humidity in. I have had to use the thick painters plastic dropcloths, what a pain.... However I dont keep anything long in them,, and I only use them if I dont have an empty cages available, which in the case they go in for a week or two while their fantastic cage gets built.
I also try not to make it a habit of having those things full, lol. Only a few will make it in here if my other cages are full.

Re: Cant Be Good Can It?
The only thing that is great about those cages is that they work as an outdoor enclosure when it is warm and humid outside. I used to use one just like it n a back deck. Other than that they are useless. Keep in mind that petsmart also says that iguanas "may need an aquarium of at least 55 gallons"
