Re: Cages...

I've only purchased glass tanks commercially. Everything else I've made myself. What are you looking to spend? Do you want something fancy or an enclosure to supply the basic needs? The price ranges anywhere from $100 to thousands. Have you considered building one yourself? We can definitely help you out with any questions you might have in that direction.

Re: Cages...

Well if you used plywood. YOu would need these pieces.
top and bottom - 46 1/2 x 24 dp
sides - 24 x 18 h
back - 46 1/2 x 16 1/2 h
substrate dam - 46 1/2 x 4 h
this would only take 1 sheet. I don't know the cost of materials in your area but I would guess $25 - $40/sheet

Then 1 can of polyeurethane sealant - $15 or so
Then the flip down doors. Could could use a framed door or frameless like in the ads. I would go with 2 doors on a 48 wide unit.
I can't approx the cost of the plexi. It varies a lot.
Do a little investigation on the plexi and hinges for it. You won't be a whole lot cheaper than some of the units available out there. But it's a whole lot more fun.

What thickness of the plywood would you recommend Michael?

Re: Cages...

For something that size, 3/4 inch would be best. You wouldn't save much money buying the 1/2" anyway.
