Crestie tank size.

From my proposed office cabinet plans. I could have a tank 40" wide x 30" high but only 9" deep. I have no experience with Crested Geckos would that be okay for a habitat or no. The depth is kinda shallow. What do ya think?

Re: Crestie tank size.

I dont see a reason. But they dont always hang out in the trees or the glass. If you had several platforms that wouldnt be too bad. the depth is shallow. i dunno really

Technically that would be height is greater than depth divided by width!
But I got what you meant!

Re: Crestie tank size.

All that Ive read and seen about them say for 1 adult is 20 gallons. 24x12x16. Since to tall will cause floopy tail if they are vertical all the time, not being able to find their food. If you give them enogh platforms it should work out fine. But Ive never heard more height. I was told not to get the tallest tank I could cause of it being to tall. Even though they can climb, it dont mean they are the best. Theyll fall.

Re: Crestie tank size.

I use 10 gallon and 20 gallon vertical Exo-terra tanks, which work perfectly. Dimensions are (in inches) 12.5 wide x 12.5 long x 19 high, and 18 wide x 18 long x 18.5 high. Anything higher than it is long and wide would be good.

Have lots of fake foliage hanging from the ceiling and ~inch-thick pieces of wood set vertically (set in a front-bottom to back-top formation) for them to climb on.

Have an inch or so of sphagnum moss for substrate (or a similar substrate that holds moisture).

Re: Crestie tank size.

It is possible to fit in up to 3 females in an upright 10 gallon tank without problems. Males are trickier, mainly because they attack other males, and therefore need to be housed seprately. A 20 gallon works good for breeding purposes. If you have room and if you want to, you can use 20 gallon upright tanks for houseing multiple geckos.

Re: Crestie tank size.

Coming from me, and noticing my crested and several others act and move. Durning the day mine is usualy found in his hides...on the ground. I was always told you can have to tall unless you have shelfs or hanging hides. But oh well.

Re: Crestie tank size.

Yeah Cody. I think I'll do a tropical this time. I'm not sure when I'll start it. Definitely won't be till after summer. The summer is always busy enough as it is. I would like to complete it before my daughters birthday in September though. We'll see how it goes. Usually I'm broke after summer from holidays so I better start buying materials here and there. Thanks for all the responses guys. I feel confident now using that size for my tank.
