Ants!!!!! = (

ok I'm not happy... The 29 gal that I have set up for the frogs until I can get the new one built has apparently attracted ants. The apartment people won't be able to get anyone in here to spray for them until next Mon. I thought I had gotten the problem at least somewhat fixed with a carpet spray that has a strong sent to it. I just sprayed it across the trail they were using and it seemed to stop the flow. Today I noticed they were back, and in force. I tried Liz's idea of the garlic and mixed up a solution then wiped it around the top rim of the tank and around the entire base cabinet. I even made sure to wipe it on the cords going up to the light. They are still all over it. Anyone have any ideas for a solution? even when the exterminator comes I don't want him spraying to close to the tank cause I would worry about what the frogs might absorb...
Thanks for any ideas in advance!

Re: Ants!!!!! = (

shell, i would totally take the frogs out of the apartment the day they spray. I don't know what else to do other than put out those ant traps.

Re: Ants!!!!! = (

yeah I didn't plan on leaving them in, but I still don't think I should let him spray to close to the setup....

Re: Ants!!!!! = (

use creme of wheat or corn meal dried, they eat it and it swells, no mess it works well instead of any chemicals. mix with something sweet to get their attention that won't get it to swell.

Re: Ants!!!!! = (

THAT is a nasty death! Sort of like sea gulls and alka-seltzer.

Re: Ants!!!!! = (

Vaseline on the outside of the enclosure will stop them, all the way around the enclosure, they can't crawl through it.
A large water basin to set the enclosure in would work but be less practical.
I would do one of those temporarily.

Re: Ants!!!!! = (

ok I don't have any vaseline here but I do have a crap load of bacitracin... Same consistency as the vaseline. Put a bead all around the aquarium where the bottom black piece meets the glass. hope this works!!!
