I've always been intereasted in the tortoises, I enjoyed seeing them in the summer in the outdoor enclosers at Detroit Zoo. I had considered rescuing one but decided it was too long of a commitment. I would have to will it to my grandchildren.

That's too bad that he died.
I heard that some zoo has a tortoise that was originally collected by Darwin himself in the 1830s, and that the animal is still live and well. It truly is amazing. A zoo I've been to a few times in Louisiana has a tortoise that came into their possession a few years before the Civil War.
I know that tuataras (the last surviving Sphenodonts) can live to be over 100... Do you think that if one was kept in captivity like tortoises are that it would be possible for one of those guys to be 250 years old?

Simply amazing....It is too bad that the tort passed on, but i'm sure it lived a long full life. Imagine the things one could experience if they lived to be 250!
