Unfortunately, its pretty much a certainty. There isn't a scientist alive today that doesn't believe that. I forget the exact numbers, but you'd be shocked to find out how many species are estimated to go extinct EVERY DAY. By the time you wake up tomorrow, several more species will have been wiped from the earth, never to return. Most of them have never even been found yet.

No, it isn't "all because of us". Species appeared and disappeared eons before humans existed. Extinction is part of nature. Have humans caused the extinction of some species? Yes. However, to blame all extinction on humans is silly.

True, not all the current extinctions are our fault, but the great majority are. Most are in the rainforests where deforestation causes loss of habitat. Certain species only live in certain areas of the forest, and when that forest is wiped out, so is the animal. The golden toad, for example, was only known to exist on one mountain in South America. Every breeding season they could be seen gathering in their hundreds. When that mountain was logged, the toads dissapeared completely, and have never been seen anywhere else since then. I think they wre declaired extinct in the 80s. I don't think Jacky meant that ALL extinctions are because of us, but the unnatural ones are all because of us.

Agreed. Extinctions were taking place long before we decided to meddle with mother nature!
Unfortunately however we do have to shoulder the blame for helping to speed many species into oblivion.
Between our constructions and our chemicals we have seriously affected the entire eco-system.
