Yeah it does sound like you have some sort of allergy to the saliva. Snakes have an anti- blood clotting agent in their saliva which means a bite will continue bleeding far longer than you'd prefer

But the swelling and feelings you experience sound more like an allergy. At least you know what happens when you get bitten now and you can be prepared!

No snake bites out of the blue,. although it may seem out of the blue to us. There is always a reason, be it that the snake is hungry, has some kind of illness, or is just plain ticked off that day!!

You should get to know your snake's behaviour.. for example we know that our boas will never just bite, unless it is a feeding strike, they will always hiss beforehand so we recognise that they are not too happy to come out that day and we leave them alone.
Regarding feeding inside or out of the enclosure, some of our snakes are fed in separate feeding tubs, and others are fed in their enclosures, mainly due to the fact that they are too big to be fed anywhere else! You may have the same problem with your burm?? .. if so, always ensure you feed with tongs for starters so that he/she won't mistake your hand for food.
