Important for Beginners!

Something that your read about often but don't pay a whole lot of attention to is leaving food (mainly crickets) in you pets tank. At least I didn't. I would put three a night in the tank for Henry, my Leo. He normally would eat 1-2 and then save the last one for the morning, or the following night. I read that the crickets would stress him or worse gnaw on his eyelids and skin. However I never noticed them bothering the little guy. However a bigger problem arose that has suprised and appalled me. What I have not noticed untill recently is a lot of the crickets that go into the tank are ready to lay there eggs. And guess what, they did. I didn't realize it till recently, but they have been laying eggs and hatchlings have been popping up right by the drinking area. This is a serious problem that will stress your little guy out, probably will crawl and poop and eat on him, and is not really to noticable untill they get bigger. This was a mistake that I made and I want everyone to be informed of the issue. I will be purchasing a 10 Gallon tank for feeding purposes of my Leo, that way things like this won't occur ever again. No damage was done, however, Henry could have lost his life and it would of been due to improper husbandry. So everyone who are new or veterans, if you have not experienced this, you will if you do as I did. Sometimes you have to trust information that you read, even if you don't see harm being done. Thank you all for your time, and remember, read your care sheets, remove uneaten crickets after 15-20 minutes max, same with super worms, meal worms whatever. If these worms get away and burrow, they will metamorph into beetles which many times can be to big for you little guy to eat, and if an attempt is made, can cause serious problems. Okay I am done rambling, just want everyone to be safe with this topic.

I never feed any of my herps in their enclosures for this reason, also because I dont want the crix dying in the enclosure and dirtying it up. It also allows me to keep a record of exactly how much each of my monsters eats
