black light for night heat?

I got this black light night heat bulb for lizzards, but I was curious if my Tokay can see it. I didn't expect it to be a real black light looking bulb. Anyway, it is darker than the red one I had and it is only a 60 watt so it won't be as hot, thank goodness! The thing is I don't think that lizzards can see red, but I am not sure and same goes for the black. I wan't sure if the red is better or if black it good or not. I need to know for future purchases. Thanks! Also, I tried black hoping it would be darker for people because my Aunt is visiting again soon and I don't want to keep her up at night and at the same time have my little Trouble stay toasty warm since the air condition is on again. Thanks!

Just a thought... Have you considered ceramic? That's how my snake and I manage to get alonge at night, as I can't handle red lights, they hurt my eyes. You can get them at pretty low wattage and they last forever.

umm, I don't really know about ceramic>could you explain? Anyway..I don't really like this black light anyway. I am going to try to take it back and if I can't I will give it to my sister or something. I will look into ceramic>is it bright? cause I need something that isn't bright for night time. I may have to do a heating pad or something. The problem with that is that I think it only keeps one spot warm and with the air on it the temp on the cool side (unheated) is 65 degrees. thanks and anymore ideas will be great =)

Ceramic Heat Emitter or ceramic heat emitter puts out heat with no light. I use these for animals that must have higher temps throughout the night.

Yeah I thought the ceramic lights were great but just a warning pet city here will not carry them because apparently they ordered a shipment but heard about them shattering so they hooked up a tank and put the ceramic light in and a couple days later it shattered...so they put another one in and a couple months later it shattered and after that they refused to carry them...but who knows...it could just be a bad batch. But it is true if you've ever made sculptures that if there's any flaws in them at all if it gets hot it will burst.

if you get one get a cage to put over it...but they are great...no light at all its just a white piece of ceramic that gets hot when you plug it into a socket

I've personally never been a fan of nocturnal heat lights, always opting for heat pads when I can. However, if you shine the light up to your gecko's face, and his pupils stay dilated, then the light should be fine. If his pupils react, then I *think* that means the light is crap and he can see it.

Thanks for the good advice guys! I think he can see the black light alittle cause his pupils didn't get as big as did with the red I had, but still seems to work for now...I think it is slightly visible, not sure it could have been the outside light interfering. So I will search for the ceramic, but about the eating pads....could I use a person heating pad and put it on the warm side (on the side) behind the temp guage to monitor the heat...and use it like that if I can't find a night bulb that works? Just a thought or back up if Petsmart or Bowmans (only places around me that will have anything worth looking lol) doesn't have the ceramic=) I am worried about it shattering now too. I don't know it is worth the risk?
