does color in chams indicate stress?

Hey the cute girl at my pet store is worried that her veild cham is stressed out because its a much darker color when awake than it used to be. She says the temps and humidity are good and the enclosure sounds large. Feeding doesn't seem to be an issue. As I was writing this I remembered that Pez seems to darken right before a shed, could that be the case here?

Color change and stress and happiness all go together when talking about chameleons. Maybe something has changed in the cage or even in the room surrounding the cage that has the cham alarmed...more people walking through etc. Or like you said...could be getting ready for shed....have the cute girl join us here! lol...Lyn

No she's mine, her boyfriend just doesn't know it yet. Yeah, right like I have a black enough of a heart, I still cry for the season 5 finale of Buffy. I told her about the website but she might have forgotten. Also she listens to our local loud music station, could that stress the bugger?

I would expect that loud music would stress out any reptile...especially with a large speaker vibrating nearby....Lyn

Yeah, contrary to popular misunderstanding, chameleon's change their colors depending on mood and temperature. If they're stressed out or cold, their color will be dark. Loud music will definately stress out a cham. Also, they dislike change, so rearranging the habitat will stress them. Reds and other bright colors stress them. Increased human activity near the enclosure will stress them. They dislike drafts as well. Also, just because she says the temps for her cham are correct, does not mean she's right See if you can get the specs on her enclosure just to be sure.
