HEY PEOPLE gecko not eating?
Hey you guys =)
I tried to give my gecko a tiny pinky yesterday, but he hasn't eaten it yet. I hope he does because I will feel guilty for killing this little cute baby mouse for nothing. I also got some live wax worms. I put 5 in a dish for him today. I am not sure if he knows it is food. He didn't eat the superworms when I tried those and the stupid things ate each other...now I have these wax worms and pinky in there and he isn't eating those.
Also, I think it could be because he isn't very hungry. There were crickets left over from last feeding. When I put the crickets in at feeding time..he usually goes right after them, but this past two times he didn't. I hope he is feeling ok. I don't know if it could be from adding plants and fountain. Maybe changing his tank made him stressed. I haven't tried to clean the glass yet. I am waiting to see if he eats. My Aunt from Mexico is visiting and staying in his room, so I can't monitor his behavior at night. She is here for about another week. Should I be worried about my gecko?

Dont feed so many wax worms, they are very high in fat and your gecko will have problems digesting them properly. Feed maybe 2 or 3 a week . Sounds like hes just a little stresses with his new cage decor

I hope that is all, just stress. I will leave him alone to chill out. I have one wax worm disappear, but may have escaped the bowl. The pinky is still there; but I don't know how much longer the poor little thing is going to last. The tokay =) moved close (like right above the dish) to the feeders. He looks like his belly is full but it is probally me hoping that he is eating good. lol I don't really know, a day ago I thought he was slim compared to the pics I've seen. How long will wax worms live if kept in the fridge? The petstore girl said it will keep them alive longer.

First of all don't leave crickets in the enclosure from one feeding to the other unless they're in the same day. Leaving them overnight, in this case "overday" is not a good idea because they disturb your geckos rest and might even hurt it.
If he still has food that he eats regularly, is almost certain he will not eat anything else so seems you killed that pinkie for nothing.
You can try to dangle the pinkie with tweezers to see if that triggers any hunt response in the gecko.
I never fed pinkies to my herps so I'm not really familiar with them, but I would probably throw him out if not eaten in less than 12h.
As for wax worms, they should be placed in a cold dark place, like a closet for example. The fridge reduces their lifespan.
How old is your gecko?

Geez, I feel bad enough about the poor little pinky =) sorry. I was thinking he might want something different. I was told by the girl at petsmart to keep the wax worms in the FRIDGE, not freezer. And I am not sure how old my Tokay gecko is. He is full size or at least close. I got him from a friend of a friend who DID NOT take care of him. NO FOOD< HEAT< WATER...nothing. I was surprised he was alive. I am trying to get as much info and make him as happy as possible. I didn't know I shouldn't leave the crickets in there with him. I guess I will have to feed less crickets more often. Usually, I get 24 crickets (about every 2 weeks or so) and he eats about half right in front of me. The crickets didn't last long before. I think he was practically starved to almost death. Now, he doesn't seem to be eating as fast or as much. he doesn't eat them right away like before, so I can't see how many he eats in a day. Maybe, now he just is full, and I can change how I feed him. I won't go overboard anymore. I wasn't sure how much he could eat and by keeping some crickets in there..he could eat whenever and and as much as he wanted. How often should I feed and how much? I will get as much crickets out as possible. I guess I can put them in a 10 gallon I have that isn't used.

Yes, fridge sorry, not freezer, my mistake!
You can try that method of placing the crickets in a container inside the enclosure but use something opaque instead of transparent to avoid your gecko a few nose aches. A tall and wide rubbermaid will do the trick.
Count the crickets you place in there and when you remove the container you'll know how many where eaten.
In time he will eat what he needs in a short period of time but for now, leaving the food available for most of the time is the best option. If they are in a container they can be left there all night and removed during the day.
Don't forget to dust the crickets.
Animals that have go through such bad treatment usually take some time to recover and act in a "regular" manner to their species. Some acquire unnatural behaviors (like eating substrate for example) and sometimes they have trouble letting go of that. Having food available the majority of the time helps. Keep an eye on yours.
