Yes, its a normal reaction for a snake to try and bite a dog, or even you. Youre just gonna have to tame him/her, anf the only way to do that is to handle him/her everyday except for after feeding .Since you just got him tho I would go a week or 2 without handeling, as hes stressed and trying to adjust to his new environment

Hello,

You heard wrong. A snake that is flicking its tongue in and out is tasting its environment. While its true they will do that to locate prey, he has just been moved. All of the "scents" in the air are new and he is trying to identify and adapt to the surroundings.

Wait the week and don't handle the snake for a few days. (Even if you want to.) The snake needs time to adjust.

At this point it is in an unfamilar place and it does not know you. Taking the snake out and handling it IS stressing it out! You need to leave it alone for at least a week to let it get accustomed to the new home. After a weeks time see if it will feed. if it does wait at least 3 days for it to digest before attempting to handle it.

And keep the dog away from the snake. The dog is a predator and the snake knows it. Next time the snake may bite you in defending itself.
