Questions about temps in tanks

its been awhile since i've asked any questions on here so I figured it would be time for one (or some). i've had the lights for my snake tanks on timers over the winter months since its been cold in the house. i've been able to keep the temps in my corns tanks at 78-80(f) in the day time and before I go to bed at night the temps are 69-71(f). all of my tanks have a Under Tank Heater and the heat lamps are on the warm side of the tank so the snakes have a cool side as well.

for the timer it is set for the lights to go on at 9 in the morning and turn off at 9 at night. its been great for the cold weather because it's kept the tanks at a consistent temp. but now its getting warmer out and it seems like for that amount of time its getting too warm in the tanks. they get up to 86-88(f) with the heat lamp and Under Tank Heater. is it okay to shorten the amount of time that the heat lamps are on? or is it okay for me to turn the lamps off all together on days like that and just let the Under Tank Heater be the source of heat? i've never really had a problem with temps before so i'm not sure about this one. i've had my oldest snake for about 4 years now and he's been my first, the other two have kind of come in afterwards. so any advice would be appreciated! thanks very much!

If the temperatures in the tanks are sufficient the lights are unnecessary unless the room itelf is kept dark. The regular ambient light will provide a photoperiod. If you find that you still need a bit more heat than the Under Tank Heater provides try going with a lower wattage bulb.

Hello,

My first thought was to lower the wattage of the bulb if the temperatures are getting too high. I was just looking at the temps (86-88) though and those are not too high. Corns do well with a basking spot in the mid to upper 80's. So long as the other end of the enclosure is cooler, those temps are fine.

hmmm okay thanks for the replies. after I posted this I did go back and reread the caresheet and found my temps were okay. they face the windows in my room but are on the other side of the room from the windows so my room is well lit. glad I asked the question because I was unsure about it. thank you!
