What kind of substrate are you using for him? Just wondering because I’m sure if it was something like reptile bark it would dry his mouth pretty fast. And what about Vaseline or one of those 24 hour moisturizers that would be ok to eat lol? Or maybe some crazy lip balm. The poor guy=( I feel really bad for him. I was terrified I was going to do something wrong while joe was chomping away at me. He was attached to my palm for 6 minutes while I ran around the house trying to think of something that would take him off without hurting him…=P

I have to agree with your vet on this one -- I'd have him put down. You might be able to keep the snake alive with extreme measures, but at what cost? (financially, emotionally and physically.)
In nature, an injury like that would lead to certain death. I see a humane euthanasia as a kindness to this poor animal.
Besides, the money and energy that you'd save not trying to keep this one alive could be spent on helping A LOT of other needy herps that actually have a chance of a better life!
Just my two cents. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Im gonna keep him...its not terribly hard caring for this monster...hes tamed down alot. For substrate I have him on paper towels to monitor his defecation and such. Hes very active and eating great for me, and until he stops eating and being active Im gonna help him to stay alive... plus Ive already fallen for the buggar!
