Iguana tail problem. And a little toilet problem!

Hey everyone. Only me looking for help YET again.
Lucifer.... the iguana that was abandoned at my front door 3 weeks ago has a bit of a problem I think.
He is 2 and a half foot long. The very tip of his tail.... about 1 inch of it appears withered and almost dead. Today when handling him I noticed the area just above there is slightly cut but was barely bleeding. Is this a problem? If so what is it and what can I do?
Also he did settle down a bit for me but started going to the toilet once I had him on my shoulder.... figured it was his non aggressive protest so kept him out a while longer each time before putting him back in and then going for a shower. I'm doing right.... aint i?
I'm the first to admit this is a huge learning curve for me.... i have 2 bearded dragons that have just bred for me and 3 water dragons but I had them from babies and I had time before hand to do alot of reading etc before buying them.
Any help and or advice is appreciated guys.
Thanks

You're learning!
Iguanas are a whole different deal than Bearded Dragons and WDs!
Try taking him and putting him in the tub under a little warm running water before handling. This will cause them to "go" in the tub and there won't be anything left to decorate your shoulder with.

The tail description concerns me. The withered portion of the tail has been damaged and the tissue has died. This is common with iguanas. Often the withered area will fall off on its own. The problem is an affliction known as dry gangrene. The necrotic tissue causes an infection that will progress up the tail and reach the body of the ig killing it. Dealing with dry gangrene is simple if unsettling to us. The diseased portion of the tail will have to be surgically amputated. The vet will most likely also perscribe antibiotics.

Take a permanent marker like a sharpy and mark the uppermost area of the dark part of the tail. If the darkness goes past that mark get the ig to a herp vet immediately.

cheers merlin. did a little more reading after my post and found what your talking about in another thread on the iggy center section.
one question I do have is do I need to reg for the ic section as well?? Already registered for the habitat one as well as here.... wouldn't it be simpler just to have one really big forum.... reg then for one reg for all?
Ok I've managed to take my OWN post off topic now. lol
Thanks for the advice. Will keep close eye on the tail. How quick does dry gangrene spread? It is literally the very tip... no more than 1 inch.... prob even a little less. The cut is about 1 cm above that.... lucifer is 2 little unruly so prob did the damage in a tail whipping exercise.
Thanks again.

That is the end we are working toward.
Iguana Center is part of this network. One registration does it all. At this time the Habitat site is individual but soon to be added to the rest of the forums and at that time one registration does it all.
