Zaroba you are comparing apples and oranges. People selling cars or groceries do not have the responsibility for a living creature's welfare. If the pet store employees don't care and are only there for the money the fault falls on the owner of the store. You hire someone that either already knows about the animals or cares enough to be educated about them. If your employee is neither of these it's time to find another employee that is. There are a lot of people looking for work that would love the opportunity to work in a store where their own interest was involved even if it isn't a great deal of money.
And if the owner doesn't care than the whole place is just a mess!
Unfortunately there are a lot of those!

Zaroba....I wasnt doing a price comparison, I was making a point that the employee needs to be knowledgable about his/her product...and sadly, very sadly the herps we love are considered just that in the pet stores..I know..I worked at Petco. Im glad we were of help herpewannabe! Thats what we're here for

that is all true.

but when it comes down to it, big businesses (like petco) are only trying to make money.
so they don't really care about the employees, as long as they get thier job done and the store makes money, the brainless rich big wigs in the company can keep getting richer.

most companies would rather hire people at minimum wage then pay 10-14 an hour for somebody thats fulltime and give them benifits. the result is part time kids that goto school and are (often) more interested in talking with thier friends.

i know I don't speak for every company. i'm just stating what i've seen around here. thiers also plenty of petshops that have caring employees and well set up enclosiers. and from what i've seen, thier usually small single store petshops.

but anyway, lets not start a big debate over it.
we're already quite off-topic now :P

i know if I were to start a petshop (i'd love to) i'd have a computer setup for customers to use that would have this site accessible so that customers could print out caresheets. granted that whoever owns this place let me do it anyway.

Im a part time kid going after school and im more knowlagable about salt and freshwater exotics then kids who were taking 4 year bio corses over at ucsd. THere are exceptions to the part-time person but I agree because I have seen my fair share of people in a petstore that couldnt tell you the difference between fresh and saltwater.

You mentioned green tree geckos in your first post. Have you actually seen them available? If so, how much were they? They're quite possibly my favorite gecko species

On the vine snake note, yeah, you probably saw a green snake, not a vine. My vine, Ivy, just loves munching on lizards and frogs. They're thin snakes, but they stretch.

awesome. I think the green tree gecko goes for 50bucks - 75bucks (breeder wise) and in petstores 40bucks I think, last time I saw them.

Are you in the U.S? I've never seen them anywhere.
